Have they gone back and changed bobs death?

Both me and my wife remembered Bob dying in season 2 in a brave, last stand/ sacrifice to save the others type way.

We are both watching Stranger things back and have just reached that point and that is not what happens at all. He just dies... no final words, no last stand. No bravery. He just runs out and dies.

We looked it up and found a few things describing his death the way we remembered.

I've heard they'd gone back and changed a few things they got wrong. I just don't see what purpose changing this death would bring other than making it pointless

Does anybody else remember it the same way we do? Or know what's going on here?
