How long is too long?
My husband and I have been together 9 years now. I’m the type of person that when something happens I want to discuss it at the moment but I’ve learned that he prefers to have his space. I get maybe a day or so that he may be in his feelings. Sometimes though he will not talk to me and pull back from helping out around the house or with the kids (to be petty). It can be as long as 3-7 days that he doesn’t want to speak with me if he’s upset. I think that’s extensive. He chooses to sleep on the couch and now that our kids are understanding more (5 year olds) they ask questions like why did daddy sleep on the couch? Or we thought we were going to play with daddy and mommy (after we said we’d play a game or something with them). And I just say oh daddy’s tired. But I’m sure they will realize that’s not the case one day. I just don’t think we need to go so long without speaking. I also don’t think it’s healthy nor does it set a good tone for how our kids should handle things. Previously I do feel he had gotten better at this but now it’s just regressed. He will even have a whole convo with me after then after a while we won’t talk and I’m like did you just get upset at the same thing? It’s like he tries to move on but can’t for days at a time. I’m not sure how to handle this as it’s mentally draining.
