Embroidery and wintertime

Hello fellow needlework enthusiasts, 'tis the season where I leave for work and it's dark outside, come back home and - surprise surprise - it's dark outside as well. And it's going to last for a while. Needless to say, colour matching by electric light is a risky business, thus I leave embroidery aside. Since Christmas is around the corner and I've been asked for gift ideas, I'd like to hear your advice/experience with natural light lamps. Anything worth buying or, on the contrary, to avoid at all costs? I'd be thankful for your input.
