A two-month fling that ended messy: Is this level of attachment normal after such a short amount of time?

Hi everyone,

I'm (29m) feeling really low right now and looking for some perspective, especially since this relationship was so new. After a couple of years of not dating, I finally met someone great (27F) on Hinge, and we dated for two months. We had a really good connection, and things moved along well.

The Argument and Breakup

The relationship came to an abrupt end after a major argument at my place.

My Mistake: I unfortunately lost my cool and said some genuinely concerning and regrettable things about her past. I know this was out of line, and it's what I regret most.

Her Reaction: She completely stonewalled me, refusing to respond or engage further while she was still there.

(Terrible) Reaction: I was so annoyed and frustrated by the stonewalling that I let it blind me. I ended up breaking up with her the next morning, primarily out of spite/anger that she wouldn't talk to me yesterday.

The Aftermath

I immediately realized I made a huge mistake. The breakup was an impulsive, self-sabotaging move, fueled by anger over the stonewalling, not a genuine desire to end things.

I contacted her, we talked, and I tried my best to explain and get back together, but she refused. I completely understand why she did.

My Struggle and Core Question

It's only been a few days, but I am really struggling mentally—way more than I feel I should be. I'm consumed by regret over what I said and the way I ended it.

My main question is this: Is it normal to be this intensely attached and hurt after only two months of dating? I feel pathetic for being this upset over something so short, but the pain is real. Any advice on navigating this regret and intense pain would be appreciated. I feel like I ruined something good and now I have to live with it.
