I kind of need someone to let me know if I'm overthinking this or if it really is a problem.

Hey r/advice, it's me again, lol. I'm writing from this cozy diner in Colorado where the pancakes are massive and the Wi-Fi is terrible, so I apologize in advance if this ends up posting twice.

Things with my boyfriend have been... strange. Lately, every time we chat, there's this feeling that I'm doing something wrong just by being away. He keeps saying things like, "I just miss you, that's all," but it sounds more like, "You're not giving me enough." This makes me feel guilty, even though I'm just living my life and pursuing something I've always wanted to do.

Last night, I attempted to have a calm and normal conversation about boundaries and expectations while I'm on the road, and he said, "I feel like you're slipping away." This made me feel terrible but also somewhat... annoyed? I mean, I don't know what he expects me to do with that. Should I cancel my entire trip?

I'm not trying to abandon him or cheat or anything dramatic I just want the space to grow without it turning into an emotional hostage situation every time.

Is this something we can resolve if we communicate better? Or is this one of those early indicators that we might not be compatible in the long run? I'm only 18 and honestly just trying to figure myself out without hurting anyone, but it feels like no matter what I do, I'm the villain.
