Vet keeps insisting to feed the cats "scraps from the table" or make "porridge with meat"

venting - advice wanted

Okay so one of my cats has been staying with a friend of mine, we are in different countries so I have no option to pick him up but i do help her with any vet bills and food bills etc. She also has 3 other cats. Gonna be honest I think at this rate he is likely to be staying with her permanently, but I am more then willing to help.

Now to the issue, my cat and one other have specific dietary needs due to allergies so we usually go to the vet for food recommendations especially since they can not eat a lot of the usual brands without being violently sick and the food they were on before is no longer sold/imported. Unfortunately the old vet who was truly amazing moved away and got replaced by a different vet at the clinic who everyone seem to praise. But when we went to him to get advice he said to feed the cats what we(humans) eat incl scraps or mix meat with porridge and do not feed any cat food as it is bad for the cats. The vet has 30+ years of experience according to the clinic, however this view seems to be very old fashioned and weird?

My friend is trying another vet and wouldn't mind doing homemade food if the cats actually ate human foods but they are just full on refusing. Friend has booked an appointment with another vet and looking for other food options, however just wanted to confirm that the other vets advice sounds a bit weird and kinda wrong and I have not missed any breakthroughs about the feline nutrition
