I can't get 2Gbps service but a few miles down the road neighbor can?
To start, yes, I can will take advantage of 2Gbps. I often work from home and move TBs of genomics data. I have the home network equipment needed to do this as well.
Basically the situation is this. I have had Fios at 1G for about a year and a half or two years. I got it as soon as it came to my neighborhood, spamming the availability checker on Verizon's site for about 8 months from when the conduit went in the ground. Comcast is the worst.... Anyway, when I signed up I was surprised to only see 1G offered. I switched my address to a larger neighborhood maybe 3 miles away and could sign up for 2G there. Any reason why new installs would only offer 1G at this point? To my knowledge my area and CO is getting those copper phase out notices, so I assumed I'd be getting the latest hardware.
Additional info: Suburban PA on the edge of Verizon's offering area to the west of Phoenixville PA. Also likely that the neighborhood that can get 2Gbps is serviced out of the same CO.
