Car Insurance Safe Driving Programs Actually Save Money Long Term?

I’m shopping around for car insurance right now, and a lot of companies are pushing these “safe-driving discount” programs (like State Farm’s Drive Safe & Save or Allstate’s Drivewise). They both say you’ll always save money, which sounds like a no-brainer… but because it’s insurance, I’m not sure wether or not to trust that claim.

My main concern: I drive on dirt roads a lot, and I pull a trailer pretty often for work. I get that these programs might save me money for the first 6-month term, but what I don’t know is whether the driving data they collect ends up affecting your renewal premium. Basically—could the bumps from dirt-road driving or pulling a trailer make my score look “bad,” and then they use that to raise the next term’s base rate?

Has anyone dealt with this or know how it actually works long-term?
