What if Aztec favour generation worked through prisoners and pyramids?

Retold

TLDR: combining the Egyptian (monuments) and Norse (battle) favour generation methods for the Aztecs.
Build Tlachtli Court/Calmecac - Pyramid of the Moon - Pyramid of the Sun - Templo Mayor for sacrifices.

First off, THANK YOU DEVS!!! Super excited for all the love this game is getting!
I was reading through the replies on this thread discussing the Aztec's favour generation mechanism, and replies by u/Kanaletto and u/Erisymum inspired this idea

Essentially, the Aztecs gain favour by sacrificing prisoners of war, but the player gains some agency by affecting these sacrifices.
When the Aztecs kill a unit, it spawns a prisoner that walks back to your temple as a 'ghost' unit (not attack-able by other players). This is a great way to differentiate favour generation from the Norse, add depth (below) and for the Aztec player to get satisfying visual feedback.

These prisoners of war gather at the temple, where they are auto-sacrificed at a predetermined rate. However, the Aztec player can build different types of temples, much like the Egyptians' monuments, to either speed up the sacrificing rate or boost the amount of favour gained per sacrifice. This allows the Aztec player to keep up with the other factions (Greeks can add more villagers to temples if they need, Eggy builds another monument, Atlanteans train/upgrade oracles, etc.) in the late game, and adds flavour with bigger and bigger pyramids.
Each age upgrade unlocks a new temple building, inspired by Tenochtitlan and Teotihuacan (not Mexica but going with the pop-culture approach of AOM it feels appropriate), and you can select which temple is currently used as a destination for the 'ghost' prisoners to walk towards, adding some strategic depth to ensure one temple doesn't fill up while another is idle.

Each civ has some sort of passive method of gaining favour, even the Norse with Hersir. To give the Aztecs one, the first 'temple' building available could be the tlachtli (ball game) court - assigning villagers directly like the Greeks could give some favour in the Archaic or during a lull in fighting, with a pop cap on the building so favour gen is limited. My history is shaky but I remember reading that the players or losing team was sacrificed at the end of the game, meaning it continues to be thematically appropriate as you collect prisoners and force them to play keepie uppie if you don't have a more advanced temple. Myth units can only be trained at one of the temples/pyramids, not the ball court.

Thus the 'temple' upgrade path could be: Tlachtli Court - Pyramid of the Moon - Pyramid of the Sun - Templo Mayor

An alternate idea is replacing the tlachtli court with the calmecac, the school of the nobility. Since these schools were administered by priests, and graduated students could become priests, government officials, or warriors, it could serve as an early, limited favour generation building that in later eras becomes a site to train elite warriors. This split between elite (calmecac) and basic (telpochcalli) is similar to the barracks-migdol and longhouse-great hall.

This gives an upgrade path of: Calmecac - Pyramid of the Moon - Pyramid of the Sun - Templo Mayor

Would be cool to integrate u/jalliss's idea from the same thread that prisoners could be used as ineffective villagers while waiting to be sacrificed, but this would likely make the Aztecs an absolutely busted booming civ for those that can micro effectively.

Big shout out to the devs for implementing the feedback of the survey, I've been playing this game non-stop since I got it at a flea market in 2006 and it's awesome to be getting new content! Will be the first DLC I purchase on announcement since before Covid.

Let me know what you guys think! Which of the two upgrade paths do you prefer?
