Gardener Overalls Raw Denim Vintage find
Just came across/discovered/acquired this denim jacket. Presented as a "one-of" or sample prototype from earlier vintage Gardener Overalls. There have been a couple of other posts about Gardener, founded in the mid-1990s by Ichiro Ueki. Apparently the brand has been relaunched with Ichiro Ueki by Spiral Jeans in Japan. In trying to look them up on the Spiral Jeans current website, there is reference to the early Gardener jackets having ceramic buttons, which this piece seems to have.
That said, there is clearly the addition of embroidery to this piece, which either love or hate, I happen to enjoy.
There is also this very interesting selvedge seam running down the back. Additionally, in case the lighting in the pictures is not clear enough-- the jacket alternates the use of indigo and darker, not quite black, denim. Each back panel is different.
Each front panel is different, as is the top front panel, and the pocket on each is in the contrasting denim. Two different topstitch thread colors.
The patch looks similar to other Gardener patches that I've seen online. Though, not having seen one in person, I cannot really compare.
The jacket itself seems close to unworn and unwashed. The white embroidery seems to be recent, as it is pristine and has gathered no dye.
All in all, I am pleased with the uniqueness of the piece.
