MyDesiary — How a Christmas Gift Dilemma Became a Social App for Expressing and Fulfilling Desires
Hey everyone,
Around this time last year, I realised I had no idea what Christmas gifts to get for family and friends — even though I knew they’d get me something. That frustration turned into MyDesiary (my desire diary), a social platform where people curate their desires, share them publicly, privately or to selected users.
We launched only one month ago, and here’s what’s happened so far:
- 200 users
- 100 desires posted
- 27 fulfilled
- Use cases: curating desires (items, goals, dream destinations or experiences), building wishlists, gift ideas, acts of kindness, vision boards, personal accountability, and celebrating fulfilments.
Lessons and Challenges
Launching early has been the best teacher and the biggest takeaways are:
- New users feel isolated if their community isn’t on the app yet, and getting users who naturally bring their friends is hard.
- I’m a developer, not a marketer, so, this aspect has been a steep learning curve.
- I’m self-funded with co-developers around the world so scaling hasn’t been exponential.
What’s Next
We’re now building the mobile app, aiming for February 2026.
Shoutout
Huge appreciation to John and Lamide. I’ve known them since uni — leaders, mentors, teachers, and high performers. Their decision to create this subreddit is exactly the kind of generous, community-driven thing they’ve always done. I’m grateful to share my journey here.
