Question about BF1

I have been playing bf1 for the first time since last month. I wanna know that why are medics restricted to single tap guns, I am not able to find atleast a semi automatic or burst gun for medic class. Have I not just progressed enough yet or is it just design?

If it's just design then how the hell am I supposed to cover my downed teammates in this game and defned myself from being shot at? Am I missing something? I am playing bf3, 4 and 1 and V. Only in this game I hate to play as medic and main support more.

Also there is something about the movement and gunplay that feels janked or inconsistent, does anyone know what is it?
