9702/34
I have a few confusions about 9702 Paper 34, Oct/Nov 2025, Experiment 1 (the extension of a spring using different points on a nail).
- Initial setup and raw readings before the table: We’re asked to Measure the initial (unextended) length of the spring and then put the ruler in such a way it stays in equilibrium.
I Adjusted the lower clamp so that the ruler stays in equilibrium, while keeping the spring clamp fixed.
My question is: (initial raw readings- equilibrium ruler part) For the reference mark on the ruler, were we supposed to align the spring with the centre reference mark or could we use the point immediately beside the centre reference mark? As it wasn’t specifically asked. I used the point right next to the centre. Will this cause a problem?
- Taking Table Readings (Extension for Different Nail-point Positions) For the actual readings, •I Started from the last point on the nail. •For each point, I adjusted the same lower clamp to bring the ruler back into equilibrium. •I kept the spring clamp fixed through the whole experiment. Then I moved point to point on the nail (left → right), taking 6 readings in total. Like i used holes/points on the ruler that were immediate side by side.
My final questions are: Is this the correct procedure? Will not using reference point as centre in the beginning cost marks? Did adjusting the same lower clamp each time and keeping the spring clamp fixed follow the expected method? Please help!!
