Mirzapur Horror: Jihadist Saif Slashes Hindu Girl’s Throat, Cuts Wrist Over Forced Conversion Refusal; Victim Critical, Referred to Banaras!

**Incident Overview**

* Date of Attack: December 5, 2025 (some reports cite December 3, but police confirm the 5th).
* Location: Ganeshganj area, under Katra Kotwali police station limits, Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh.
* Victim: A 20-year-old Hindu woman (named Princy or Srishti in some reports; her family identifies her as from a Bahujan/OBC community). She was in a year-long relationship with the accused but ended it due to pressure to convert to Islam and marry him (Nikah).
* Accused: Abdul alias Mohammad Saif (or Mohammed Saif), a local man from the same area (some reports describe him as from an SC community with a criminal background). He allegedly broke into her home, pressured her for conversion and marriage, and when refused, slashed her throat and wrist with a blade.
* Immediate Aftermath:
   * The victim's mother witnessed the attack and raised an alarm. Neighbors and family rushed her to the local district hospital.
   * Due to critical injuries (severe throat and wrist cuts leading to heavy bleeding), she was airlifted/referred to the Trauma Centre at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi.

**Motive:**

 Per the FIR filed by the victim's brother, Saif had been pressuring her for months to convert under Uttar Pradesh's anti-conversion law. The relationship was known to both families, but it soured over religious demands. No broader "jihadist" network was mentioned in official probes.

Initial Actions:

* 7 people (including Saif's sister, brother-in-law, and friends) were detained for questioning and aiding the accused. Later reports cite 9 arrests total for sheltering or helping him flee.
* A ₹25,000 reward was announced for Saif's capture.
* 4 police teams were formed to hunt him down, amid heightened security due to communal tensions.

**Status of the Accused: Is He Dead?**

* Discovery of Body: On December 9, 2025 (Tuesday evening), Saif's decomposed body was found floating in the Ganga River near Maharshi Dayanand Ghat (or Maharshi Ghat), Varanasi (about 80 km from Mirzapur).
* Identification: Confirmed by his mother and sister. The body was sent for post-mortem at Varanasi's district hospital.
* Cause of Death: Post-mortem report (received December 10, 2025) confirmed drowning as the cause. Police investigation suggests he jumped into the river to commit suicide shortly after the attack, fearing arrest. No evidence of foul play has emerged, though locals speculated on social media about possible mob justice (unsubstantiated).
* Police Statement: Mirzapur SP Somen Barma inspected the site and noted the body's decayed state indicated it had been in the water for days. The case is closed against Saif, but probes into accomplices continue.

**Victim's Condition**

* As of December 11, 2025: Stable but still under treatment at BHU Trauma Centre. She is out of immediate danger but requires ongoing care for her injuries. Her family has expressed relief over Saif's death but demands strict action against those who helped him.
