Please help a novice understand x265

Sorry I asked a question yesterday and basically now I have more questions than answers due to my poor knowledge. I run a Jellyfin server (on Wifi unfortunately) and given the option of x265 vs x264.

Now where I'm streaming to is generally Chromecasts with the Jellyfin app, these can direct play x265 and even DVDsubs as well on fly without transcoding.

My understanding is x265 is lower bandwidth which Jellyfin over wifi helps (to be fair I have no issues transcoding to devices or buffering issues).

Now in terms of quality which is better, can x265 offer better quality than x264?
