12 vetted AI/SaaS/MarTech picks you can actually use (how I test them + quick wins)
TL;DR: I’ve curated and tested 12 tools (AI infra, SaaS builders, Martech).
For each: what it’s for, one concrete use-case, and the “one-minute integration test” I use to decide whether to keep it. If you’re launching product-led features or scaling marketing ops. This will save you weeks.
My quick thesis
Curation matters more than invention. There are 100 tools for every problem. What matters: pick tools that (A) compose well, (B) have good primitives/APIs, and (C) don’t force you into vendor-lock.
Below: practical picks + how to evaluate fast.
The list (short reviews + one-minute test)
AI / Data infra
LangChain + Vector DB (Pinecone / Chroma) Use: RAG assistants, internal search, knowledge bases. One-minute test: Ingest one doc, run a semantic query. Are results relevant? If not, ditch or refine embeddings.
Weaviate / Milvus (vector DB alternatives) Use: production-scale semantic search with controlled infra options. One-minute test: Insert 100 points, run similarity; measure latency.
OpenAI (GPT APIs) / Claude / Llama 3 (self-hosted) Use: model access; choose by latency/cost/controls. One-minute test: Run same prompt across two providers, compare quality and cost.
SaaS / Product stack
Supabase
Use: Postgres + auth + storage — best for fast MVPs.
One-minute test: Create table, call from Postman, auth flow works?
Vercel (or Fly / Render) Use: Deploy frontend & serverless functions with minimal ops. One-minute test: Deploy a static build, CI deploys and env vars work.
Retool / Internal tools Use: Admin panels, data ops. One-minute test: Connect to DB, build a CRUD screen in 10 minutes.
Martech / Growth
7. Klaviyo
Use: Direct-to-consumer lifecycle for revenue attribution.
One-minute test: Track an event, trigger a flow; is data passing within 60s?
Customer.io Use: Product-event-driven emails / in-app messages. One-minute test: Send event from prod -> verify audience segmentation.
PostHog / Amplitude Use: product analytics, pick self-host (PostHog) or managed (Amplitude). One-minute test: Fire user event, verify funnel metric appears.
Creative / Ops
10. Runway / Midjourney / Stability
Use: Rapid creative prototyping for ads, thumbnails, variations.
One-minute test: Generate 5 variants and A/B in a tiny campaign.
Zapier / Make (Integromat) Use: glue small automations without infra. One-minute test: Create a 2-step chain — event -> Slack notify.
Pinecone / Vector DB (again for emphasis)—it’s a category killer when paired with LLMs.
Evaluation rubric I actually use (so you can steal it)
- Composability (30%): API, webhooks, SDKs
- Observability (20%): logs, metrics, usage export
- Security & governance (15%): RBAC, VPC options, data retention
- Docs & community (15%): code samples, best-practices
- Economic fit (20%): predictable pricing for scale
Quick stack templates (two-line blueprints)
-
MVP knowledge assistant: Supabase (user DB) + LangChain + Chroma + OpenAI + Vercel
-
Ecom lifecycle: Klaviyo + PostHog + Supabase + Vercel
-
Product analytics + ops: PostHog self-host + Retool for admin + Supabase
If you run one of these, tell me: what pain did it solve in day 1? I’ll reply with a direct tweak or shortcut. If mods want this as a collaborative wiki, I’ll update with community inputs.
