PHYS 22000 — How much does the curve usually help?
Hey everyone, I’m currently sitting at about an 82% in PHYS 220 (including homework, labs, clickers, etc.). Our syllabus says that after the final exam, the lowest midterm will be replaced by the final and that grades will be adjusted once final scores are in.
The first two exam averages for our section were around 60% and 50%, so I know the class has been struggling. I’ve seen old posts saying that sometimes this course gets curved pretty generously (like raw 55 → 70 in past semesters), but I’m not sure how typical that is.
My questions: 1. For those who’ve taken PHYS 220 recently, how big was the final curve or adjustment? 2. If you were above an 80 going into the final, did your grade end up noticeably higher? 3. Does the final-replaces-lowest-exam rule usually bump people up a lot?
I’m mostly trying to figure out if my current 82% keeps me in the B/B+ or A- range after all adjustments. Any insight from people who survived this class would be super appreciated. Thanks
