I need a "getting diagnosis guide"!
Hi everyone! I think I might be autistic, so it would be great to listen to the professional's opinion.
So at first... How did you find a good specialist? I don't have any autistic friends, there are no local groups about autism in my area, so there's no one to ask. I don't even know how to google to find something correct, because everything I find is psychiatrists/psychotherapists with a wide range of specialities or psychiatrists who specialize on children.
And second - what do people even do and the appointment? Is it okay to start with a request "Am I autistic or not?", or people usually want to find a therapy, so if you're here in the office, it means that after the diagnosis you're ready to go here for a couple of years to work with your relationships and anxiety and etc?
I don't need an official paper saying that I'm autistic, but only a conclusion "yes" or "no" for validating my experience. So if I prepare well for the appointment, is it possible to sort things out at once? I track my possibly autistic behaviours in a note sorted by DSM-5 criteria, so I'm ready to start an appointment with a structured flood of these facts:)
Thanks in advance for the answers! Write me in PM if you like it more;)
