"What should we do?" is draining our relationship.
tl;dr: My partner and I waste 20-30 minutes every time we try to decide simple things like dinner or weekend plans. It's exhausting. Looking to hear if others experience this "decision paralysis" and what (if anything) has helped them.
My partner (26F) and I (28M) keep getting stuck in the "I don't know, you choose" loop every time we need to decide something simple - dinner, a movie, weekend plans. We don't fight, but it wastes 20-30 minutes of our limited time together and leaves us both mentally exhausted.
It's not about disagreeing on options. We both want the other to be happy, so we hesitate to pick. The conversation spins, our evening gets shorter, and we often just pick something boring to end the discussion.
I'm starting to think this "decision paralysis" might be a common modern relationship problem. Are we alone in this?
For those who recognize this:
What decisions cause the most back-and-forth for you?
Does it get worse when you're tired/stressed?
Have you found any tricks that actually help?
For those who've escaped the loop:
Did you create systems or rules?
Was it about better communication or external tools?
Did fixing this small thing improve your relationship overall?
Not looking for perfect answers - just want to know if others face this and what (if anything) has worked. Thanks for any insight.
