Intense, socially acceptable special interests are a sign of autism in females???
Why am I just now learning about this???
I've off and on suspected that I may have autism, but I've never really known. I struggled a lot socially as a kid, even having pretty severe social anxiety even bordering on selective mutism for a long time. And I still struggle with severe anxiety but I thought I just outgrew it a little and I've never had special interests like a lot of people with autism do.
But I do have my interests and I invest in them HEAVILY. Which I always thought was q little odd. Like I basically have 3 hobbies. I read, I go to the gym, and i run. Which I was always pretty pleased with because yeah, those are all very solid, common, socially acceptable hobbies. But I mean? I read 180 books this year. I started running in January and already ran 3 races this year, including a marathon. I go to the gym every day. And when I'm not doing those things I'm listening to podcasts about them, buying clothes or protein bars or checking out books or otherwise learning more about them. Most people aren't this invested in their hobbies.
And I'm not very interested in other hobbies. I refuse to learn about music. I refuse to sew. Refuse to cook.
Am I, possibly, autistic??
