how do i get actual experience from my field?

hi, i’m. pretty unemployed right now but have an unpaid social media internship for an indie developer company. I am also pursuing a bachelor’s for a major in communication and a minor in marketing.

i look forward to getting into the whole creative business side of advertising, branding, marketing, and the likes of that. i like working on things that make people stop and think about what they’re viewing. i want to move people through branding and advertising.

besides part-time jobs and internships, what are good starting points i can work on if i want to get ahead in my career?
