What’s your honest take on English-language stand-up comedy in Bangkok right now?
Over the last few years I’ve noticed English-language stand-up comedy popping up all over Bangkok. Some shows feel polished, some feel chaotic, and some feel like they’re trying really hard to be “comedy-club nights” but don’t quite stick the landing.
I’m curious how you, the people actually living here, feel about it.
A few questions that would genuinely help me understand the landscape
Have you been to any English comedy nights in Bangkok? Which ones, and how was your experience? (No need to hold back — I’m interested in both the good and the bad.)
What makes a comedy night worth your time here? Is it the lineup? The venue? The crowd? The ticket price? The vibe?
Do you prefer polished shows with experienced comedians, or do you enjoy open-mic chaos?
Do you feel like there’s a difference in quality between shows run by different producers? No need to name names if you don't want to — just curious whether Bangkok audiences feel those distinctions.
For transparency:
I run a weekly English-language stand-up show in Bangkok myself, so part of me is trying to understand how locals and expats perceive the quality and variety of comedy here. I’m not here to trash anyone — just trying to see what the community actually thinks, and what you look for when deciding which shows to attend.
If you’re open to sharing, I’d really appreciate your thoughts. Happy to answer questions from the performer/producer side too if that’s useful.
