Does Gaia use the bike layer in routing?

I'm trying to see if Gaia can work well for navigating between points on a bike. So I'm creating a route between A and B, I have the OpenCycleMap layer selected and biking selected as the activity, but Gaia still picks traffic-heavy roads that don't have bike lanes even next to those with bike lanes...

Dose Gaia's routing not actually consider the map layer and activity at all? Is it useless for automatically making routes between places then? I'm confused on what this thing even does and doesn't do.
