Unpopular opinion: December is secretly one of the easiest months to land a remote interview

Business

I keep seeing the same advice everywhere: “Pause your job search until January, no one hires in December.” From my experiences as a remote writer and digital marketer, this is one of the good months for freelancers and remote workers to get contracts

I run a niche remote job board focused on African time-zone friendly roles (Kazinest) and I just pulled the actual numbers from the last 30 days to see if that advice holds up. Here’s what the data shows:

  • Total new job postings: only down ~12% vs November
  • Total applications received: down 43% (everyone is on holiday mode or listening to the “wait till Jan” advice)

Translation = Your application is now competing with way fewer people and on top of that:

  • A lot of teams still have 2025 headcount budget they need to spend before 31st Dec, or it disappears
  • Managers who are working this week are usually the ones desperate to close roles before year-end

Check out KaziNest

Don’t sleep on December. Less competition + motivated hiring managers = your best shot right now. Good luck out there!
