An ATV was used to break into a storage facility operated by Niagara College’s teaching winery.

Niagara Regional Police said a thief initially stole a quantity of wine, then twice returned to steal more.

On Saturday police were called to the facility on Concession 5 Road, between Queenston and Line 8 roads, for a report of a break and enter.

Police said that at 11:55 p.m. on Nov. 27, an unknown person rode up to the building on an ATV and used it to break down a door. The individual then entered the facility, stole a quantity of wine and fled on the ATV.

Police said the suspect, whose image was captured on surveillance video, returned two more times throughout the night.

The suspect is described as having a medium build and was wearing a black, full-faced motorcycle helmet, a green jacket, brown pants, black shoes and a black backpack.

The ATV is a newer model, police said, that is black or grey, has seating for two with a backrest and LEDs.

The facility is in a vineyard that the college took over operation of in 2020, as part of its partnership with Canopy Growth Corp. Canopy purchased the 10.9-hectare vineyard, next to its Tweed Farms cannabis greenhouse, from Coyote’s Run Estate Winery in May 2019.
