Why robotic affirmations might not work for some people

Tips & Techniques

Yeah it’s me again. And whatever I’m saying is purely based on my own experience/understanding, so take it with a grain of salt.

2–3 years ago I tried almost everything except robotic affirmations and nothing really worked (I probably wavered, whatever). About a year ago I decided robotic affirmations were THE ONE for me. Thought I was gonna get everyone's ass and whatever tf i want! (I'll still do it anyways) I assumed that if I affirmed 24/7, I wouldn’t have to flip negative thoughts, sit and imagine, or do anything consciously. I thought I could just let it play in the background of my mind. You know?

That was the problem.

For someone like me... very emotional, easily overstimulated, prone to overthinking/anxiety, robotic affirmations can backfire. You start looping. Unknowingly you start thinking things like: <“If I don’t affirm enough, my desire will slip away” or <“My desire is fragile, I need to keep holding it with affirmations.”

Then opposite/negative thoughts show up and you get scared of them. Not because they have power (they don’t), but because your attention gives them power. And that sends a signal to the subconscious like “my desire is in danger” or “this thought is dangerous.”

Robotic affirmations do work. I’m NOT saying they don’t. But they might work better for people with a more stubborn/unbothered personality. For example, that famous robotic affirmation YouTuber Sammy, look at her personality. She’s literally built for this method because she genuinely doesn’t give a fwck about anything that contradicts her desire.

So what works better for emotional people like me? Something with at least a little emotion attached. Imagination, visualization, affirmations with feeling—anything that doesn’t feel forced or robotic.

Also, it’s VERY important to know your underlying assumption about the method you’re using. It’s the Law of Assumption after all. If you assume it doesn’t work, it won’t. If you assume it does, it will. And you can always change assumptions, so don’t beat yourself up.

Again, this is just my personal experience/understanding. Fight me in your dreams if you want (jk, don’t).
