This movie might go hard
I don't think you guys understand HOW hard. This isn't just about Markiplier and his crew - though believe me, I really admire them, believe in Mark and already love his other projects and acting.
But what I noticed people haven't been talking about is the story of the game itself. On top of being a Markiplier fan, I'm also an Iron Lung fan for how fascinating its worldbuilding is!
The Quiet Rapture happened only 21 years before the events of the game, and vanished almost everything in the universe to the point there's only 725 humans left alive now. Too few to rebuild, too many to feed - as the trailer says. And they're panicking for resources, which led them to be at war with each other.
Your player character is from the Martian station Eden, which uses a different calendar to count the years than the people who captured you, the Coalition of Iron. This convict character only got captured because of being involved in an attack to one of the C.O.I.'s stations.
And there isn't just giant murder fish in the blood ocean - the whole game makes you wonder what the hell are the structures you're taking pictures of. Why are there city structures, a wobbling portal, giant skeletons, reverberating formations?
Of course, there are things that I don't think are going to make into the movie. Like the 16 years timeskip between the convict being captured and being put in the Iron Lung. But I think the only way for this movie to not be extremely entertaining is for it to not mention the lore whatsoever. But as we already watched in the trailer, it was.
I admit I have no idea what the pacing will be like. Maybe it's gonna be a lot of tell-don't-show due to set limitations - if the entire movie takes place inside the submarine you won't be able to really show the worldbuilding happening. And I don't know how well the trailer is representative of the movie until we get to watch it.
So if you don't like that, that's entirely in your right too. But by just the lore, I'm pretty invested in the game and excited to see what Mark did with it.
