E4 struggling with a stable social image.

Advice Wanted

I've always wanted to be as authentic as I can, but oftentimes this fixation on whatever state of being that I deemed "ideal" led me to latch and hold on to it, instead of letting it flow naturally and, hence, allowing my inner life to flourish with little embellishments.

To give you an example: In my teen years, I read this semi-popular mystery novel titled AGGGTM. I was hooked, and I latched on to that interest, convincing myself that the theme the book was centred around was my entire personality (true crime). Even when it was clear that I had lost interest, I forced myself to keep at it. I watched real life cases, documentaries, and investigations. I told myself that I was going to study criminology, or an adjacent field like criminal justice, because that's who I am.

But then... another ideal state of being was experienced, and it replaced the previous one. It's a looping, changing cycle that goes on and on.

No. It's not just "interest" or "hyperfixation". People don't change the way they behave based on their interests alone. I had a Disney phase where I behaved more optimistic, extroverted, and talkative. I had a literature phase where I behaved more serene and talked loftier. I had an academic phase where I studied harder, raised my hand more often, and actually aced the semester. This is not as simple as changing interests.

What could this mean? Does this solidify my E4 self-typing or indicate that I'm another type?
