does ross act out of character in The one with the jellyfish ?
For the record, Ross is my favourite character on Friends, which is probably why this episode frustrates me so much. Ross at his core, is a hopeless lover boy like v earnest, emotional, deeply attached and almost painfully invested in the people he loves. That’s why his behavior in The One with the Jellyfish always feels strangely out of character to me. Regardless of the “we were on a break” debate, he slept with someone else mere hours after a fight with Rachel and that caused real harm to Rachel. Rachel asking him to take responsibility for that doesn’t feel unreasonable yet Ross treats it like an existential threat to his identity. Instead of prioritizing reconciliation, he gets stuck on defending himself and that insistence on being technically right feels like the moment where his character starts tipping into the more neurotic, defensive version we see in later seasons. Every rewatch, i am left wondering why he couldn’t just let that go if he truly loved Rachel ??
