USB wifi Adapters???

i use a 5g network on my phone and I have an old laptop with a 2.4g wifi card. whenever I turn my mobile hotspot on the lap doesn't detect it. but when I switch my hotdpo6band to 2m4g it detects. now the problem is that I have limited 4g data pack about 2gb and unlimited 5g data. so can I use a USB wifi adaptor supporting both bands? will that help my laptop use my 5g network???
