33 Week Loss Due to NEC

Neonatal loss

I had a fantastic pregnancy until my third term when I developed severe preeclampsia. Our son had to be delivered early due to the preeclampsia at 33 weeks. He was born very healthy and was doing great. Medical staff in the NICU kept telling us he just needed to gain weight and that he was going to walk right out of there because he was doing so well.

After fortifier was added to our baby’s breastmilk, he developed NEC hours later and died in less than 24 hours. We are absolutely devastated.

We feel like our lives are over. How do we ever regain hope of having a happy life again one day? I’m in my late 30s, I don’t know if our baby was my only chance to be a mother. Any advice or guidance on how to endure our nightmare is appreciated.
