Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) faced a significant political setback in Akola after many loyal office-bearers and former corporators quit the party. They formally joined the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, strengthening the Shinde faction’s presence in the region.

The party induction ceremony took place in Mumbai in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and senior Shiv Sena leader Manisha Kayande. Although speculation about this move had been circulating for several months, the developments were officially confirmed yesterday, giving the political shift a formal shape.

Among the prominent leaders who joined the Shinde camp is senior former corporator Rajesh Mishra. Following his entry, the party leadership entrusted him with the responsibility of city chief (Mahanagar Pramukh). His appointment is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the party’s organizational strength in Akola.

However, sources indicate that Mishra’s elevation has not been entirely smooth. There are reports of internal dissent within the Shinde-led Shiv Sena regarding his appointment. Despite this, party leadership appears firm on strengthening its local unit before crucial elections.

The timing of this political shift has added to its impact. With municipal corporation elections approaching, the defection of experienced leaders from the Uddhav faction has altered the political equations in Akola. Observers believe this move could significantly affect the electoral prospects of both factions.

For the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, the development is being viewed as a major organizational setback. The departure of grassroots leaders and former corporators has raised questions about the party’s hold at the local level.

On the other hand, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena has projected this induction as a sign of growing public confidence in Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s leadership. Party leaders claim that more such inductions may follow in the coming weeks.

Overall, the political landscape in Akola appears to be heading for a reshuffle. As civic elections draw closer, this defection episode has intensified political activity and sharpened competition among major parties in the district.
