Did / Does Redecorating & New Carpets Actually 'Add Value' (Profit) to Your House?
I bought my house 8 years ago as a dooer upper. I've done a bit of work to it to a reasonable amateur DIY standard, but I now would like to move.
There are things that still need doing to the house, such as new hall, stairs and landing carpets, plus the spare room needs replastering. I also painted the kitchen cupboards a couple of years ago (which I wished I hadn't) so they need repainting / replacing along with a new cooker.
So, I was wondering whether it would be worth doing the above, or would I only potentially get back from selling what it cost to make the above improvements? Perhaps save the money and use it towards the deposit for the new house instead?
I'd be very interested to know if any of you made a larger than expected profit from selling your home by making improvements outside the usual (i.e. extension, garage, brand new kitchen, adding a car parking space etc.) and if so, what were those improvements? Thank you.
