Need help choosing a 65” TV (~$700) with future ambient lighting in mind
I’m in the market for a 65” TV, budget roughly $700.
Usage will be:
- Xbox Series X
- Nintendo Switch
- External Google TV
- External 5.1 / Atmos audio (so TV speakers don’t matter)
I’m not chasing perfect specs — I just want something reliable for the next 6–8 years.
One extra thing:
I’m planning to add ambient lighting behind the TV and on the sides later (screen-reactive), so I’d like to avoid TVs that are known to have:
- HDMI handshake issues
- Weird latency problems
- eARC quirks
I’ve been looking at:
- TCL / Hisense / LG models
- Prefer Costco or Sam’s Club for warranty/value
Questions:
- Are there any models you’d avoid for reliability reasons?
- Any TVs that pair better with external HDMI devices long-term?
- If you were buying a solid 65” today under $700, what would you personally choose?
Appreciate any real-world experience. Specs are easy to read — ownership experience isn’t.
