Updating to Patch 8 After Finishing My Last Patch 7 Run...Question About ImprovedUI & General Advice

So, I'm finally updating to Patch 8, and I know that the situation with ImprovedUI changed between Patch 7 and 8 due to it no longer being maintained by its original creator. I've seen two variants of the updated ImprovedUI for Patch 8, the Slim version and the Forked version. Which version should I be using?

I plan on using most of Caites' mods to improve my overall experience, as well as a various assortment of other mods.

I'm doing a clean uninstall/reinstall of the game, so I can start with a fresh palette and minimize my chances of encountering errors. My prior run had me using a TON of mods, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice or suggestions for me pertaining to Patch 8. Anything I should be mindful of that changed between Patch 7 and 8?
