Was this a big red herring?

At the end of episode one, the screen "pans out" to show the grounds are in the void, and the void is in a computer, in the C&A office, was that just meant to make us believe Caine's crazy conveluted plan from the start or did it actually mean something? Like yeah the circus is a digital program, but it was the same computer Pomni looked at when she was running through exit doors in episode 1. Why would they have us focus on a computer if it meant nothing???
