Do I really need to learn Python OOP for AWS automation and Lambda work?

Spoiler

Hi everyone,

I have around 4 years of experience working with AWS, mainly focused on automation using Python, especially with AWS Lambda. I’m comfortable with Python up to functions and regularly write working automation scripts for day-to-day tasks.

Now I’m considering whether to invest time in learning Python OOP concepts (classes, inheritance, etc.), and I wanted some real-world perspective.

My questions are:

  • Is Python OOP truly necessary for AWS automation and Lambda-based workflows?
  • In real production environments, how often do you use OOP in cloud/automation projects?
  • Would it make more sense to focus further on AWS services, boto3 usage, and writing clean, maintainable functional code?

I’d really appreciate insights from professionals working in cloud, DevOps, or automation roles.

Thanks in advance!
