Haven't played since Etalus got released, how is he at this point?

I was in love with this game on release, waiting until they released Etalus, since he is in my top 3 favorite fighting game characters of all time. But they fumbled him so hard I haven't played since I opened the game the day he released. He just felt slow, and they removed wavedash out of dash attack, and it just ruined the feel of the character. Has he gotten any love since release, or is he generally the same? I miss this game but never really loved any of the characters after 100 hours.
