My glasses journey for the past 5 months is making me feel like I'm crazy
Please bear with me. I know this is a long post but I've just had so much anxiety in trying to find glasses that work for me.
5 months I had to get an eye exam because I started using a new computer monitor which was causing a lot of eye strain. The glasses I was wearing then were high index and lightweight titanium and I never had any issues with them except for the first week adjustment period from two years prior. Usually I would see an optometrist at a Walmart Vision Center located a bit further away for my eyes exams, but this time I decided to see a different doctor at a Walmart closer to me.
This optometrist gave me a prescription that was a step back from my old one and said my vision had improved slightly. So after that I chose the same model frames I had right there at Walmart since they were on display and I liked them.
1 week later Walmart calls and tells me their lab can't cut the lenses to the right size to fit the frames and I have to choose a smaller frame, which sounded ridiculous because it was the same exact frame they made lenses for two years before that. When I went in they told me they switched labs and that was the reason was why they couldn't makes the lenses. So at this point I was forced to pick a smaller frame. 1 week later, the glasses were ready. They felt super light, but also much smaller than what eyes were used to, but the main problem was I had so much trouble focusing on reading text on paper or any computer screen, and it was giving me constant headaches for two weeks. They also had this weird rainbow effect whenever light reflected off the bottom part of the lens. I went back to Walmart and they said everything looked fine with the prescription. At this point I didn't know if this new lab they were using was doing something wrong or my prescription was off, but I decided to just return the glasses for a refund because I felt like it was time to go elsewhere.
I decided to go to that one Walmart that was further away where my usual Optometrist worked so I can could get a 2nd exam. He was kind enough to bill the exam to my insurance as medically necessary instead of charging me full price out of pocked since I had already used my benefits with the first doctor. He gave me back the same prescription as my old glasses from two years ago and said no change was really necessary but I still needed new glasses. He also couldn't figure out why the prescription from the other doctor caused me problems since it wasn't a huge change.
With this prescription in hand, I decided to find a different eyeglass store because honestly I was afraid of Walmart's new lab doing something wrong with the lenses.
The frames at this other store were more expensive but I decided to choose a pair that was a different shape and bigger to avoid having the same squinting feeling I had with the small frames I returned at Walmart. I get these glasses and wow I absolutely love the wide lens coverage. Like my eyes felt so relaxed and it even covered my peripheral vision well. I was no longer getting headaches and could see better. The problem now? They were too heavy. They were also metal, but not lightweight titanium, and plus for whatever reason the lenses were much thicker than my old glasses from 2 years ago, even though they're both the same prescription and high index. For a month I tried to get used to them, but they were constantly putting too much pressure on my nose when they fell and also causing pressure on my ears. I got them adjusted two times at the store I got them from but the staff there aren't as friendly and didn't seem to show much care, so I actually went back to Walmart where the opticians there were still happy to help me. The glasses always felt good right then and there at the store, but later on I could feel that they were either too loose now or causing too much pressure again.
Once again I decided that ok these frames obviously aren't working out, so I went back to the store I got them from for an exchange and chose a pair that was more similar in shape to the ones I was used to from Walmart 2 years ago. For the next two weeks while my new glasses were being made, the heavy pair I was wearing was still slipping down my face but all the pressure on my ears and nose magically went away. I was at a point where I was like ok maybe these can actually work now, but there was also that doubt that they were just gonna cause me more problems again. Ultimately I decided to go for the new pair when it was ready, because what could go wrong? They were the shape and I was used to and supposed to be lighter. Just three days after wearing them I already started regretting my decision to exchange them. Again even though these new frames were similar in looks and shape as my old friendly ones, they were a different type of metal, a heavier metal apparently. These are the ones I'm currently wearing and I feel so much pressure behind my ears and nose again and they're constantly slipping. I'm always pushing them up, always noticing that they're smaller then the bigger frames I just returned (meaning my eyes can now see outside the lens area where things are blurry), and just always feeling pain from the pressure. Once again the lenses were also thicker than my old Walmart ones for whatever reason (same prescription and high index). I called the store to find out if I could perhaps get the old glasses back if they still had them but they said no.
I've come to the point where it's all I'm thinking about day and night and it's making me lose sleep. I have to get these new glasses adjusted again and I feel bad going back to Walmart especially since I'm not really a customer there anymore and the opticians have made so many adjustments for me already. Again they seem like they know what they're doing but I feel bad going back. It's like I don't know what to do anymore because it feels like every decision I make with these glasses something goes wrong. I keep second guessing myself and it always turn out for the worse.
