What's the decider for 'its time to change my car' & what do you look for in a replacement?

Misc Question

I'm on just my 4th car since 2001.

I ditched my golf GTI at year 4 because it started to need significant work, warranty had replaced starter motor & associated electrics that fried themselves plus suspension mounts & exhaust mounts.

I ditched the c class that replaced it when it was 7 after a turbo hose & thermometer went.

I wanted to ditch its e class estate replacement when it was 12 because I wanted something more fun but ended up keeping it after Cazoo had issues because I removed the private plate before part exchange, per their instructions, I still purchased the intended replacement.

I'm less inclined to have desire for anything affordable & ones I do desire are likely older models that may have some major maintenance needs that I can't be bothered with.

Most modern cars drive extremely well and all have good safety features like abs/traction control, air bags, immobilisers and alarms.

Just wondering main reasons for others changing their cars & what they look for in the replacement over and above what went before them.
