Hello !!

I just received my gift from the October photo contest !
The Viltrox 85 mm f2.0 EVO for Sony FE, the first model of the EVO series.

Here is a quick review of the lens, It's an honest review, Viltrox doesn't read it before, and doesn't

The lens comes into a small white box, very well packed, with a Viltrox cloth to clean the lens and a warranty card.

The first impression when taking the lens in my hand, was wow, quite a nice lens, very nice built, feel good in the hand. Didn't expect that for a lens at this price.

The lens is very small for an 85 mm, the front filter size is only 58 mm ! (First pic)
There is an USB-C port to custom the button, and to update the firmware.

You have a AF/MF switch, a custom button, aperture ring (the sound of this is very satisfying) This one is also clickable or declickable.

The lens hood is a bit thick, feel a bit cheap IMO, on my copy mount or dismount the lens hood is difficult.

Let's jump into the real world review of the Optical Quality.
The photos from the third to the last were taken with my A7C and edited on lightroom.

85 mm is one of my favorite focal length, you can do a lot of things with that.
Landscape, Portrait, Street photo, Wedding (I was wedding photographer), Astro photo (if you are well equipped).

Mounted on my Sony A7C (first gen) the combo is well balance, the weight is very good (second pic)

In term of Image Quality, the lens is very sharp all across the frame, wide open the center is very good, stoping down the lens give you an excellent sharpness and contrast.
Wide open in the extreme corner, there is a bit drop of in IQ, still remain very good, and stopping down the lens increase the sharpness a bit.
(third pics) F5,6 ISO 100 S 1/320
(pics 4 is a 200% magnification in the center)

Another cool thing about it, is the minimum focusing distance of 74cm, see the picture 5, this is a no crop shot, F2,8 ISO 100 S 1/320
The picture 6 is a 200% magnification, plenty of details ! A very good point

The pics 7, F3,2 ISO 100 S 1/400, is a detail of some leaf, not at the minimum focusing distance, the details looks very good, the background blur is very nice and soft.

Pics 8 is shot at the minimum focusing distance, wide open, at F2,0 ISO 100 S 1/500, the details looks good, really nice Bokeh balls, I was facing the sung; there is flare, but the contrast remain excellent.

Same for the pics number 9, F2,0 ISO 100 S 1/800, I just move a bit to not having the sun directly on the lens, and the flare disappears, contrast and sharpness are strong.

Picture number 10, another landscape shot at F5,6, the contrast and sharpness are very very good.
Picture number 11 is a 200% magnification of the top left corner.
You can see in the extreme corner a drop of in term of details, but looking at the corner, the sharpness increase a lot.

So at the moment, the lens looks fantastic, small, very nice build, you got everything you need (aperture ring, af/mf, one customize button), the sharpness and contrast are excellent wide open, and become very strong when stopping down a bit.

CA are well control

For the price it's an excellent lens !

Hope they will release, some of focal length of this series.

Good job Viltrox
