Do as I say, not as I do
APs are gd hypocrites and narcissistic control freaks. Especially AMs. ADs tend to be emotionally absent, stern, the "bar setter" and the "ultimate threat" (the dreaded "Wait til your Dad gets home"). AMs are a category unto themselves. Nagging, demanding, manipulative, gaslighting, mean, jealous, hostile...like, everything NOT motherly. I spent my entire childhood wondering why I wasn't "good enough" and as an adult, my revelation is my AM didn't treat me as a daughter, she treated me as an enemy. And as a human punching bag - physically and emotionally. Like everything that sucked in her life was due to my very existence. Finding this sub and reading all the similar experiences, while somewhat comforting in knowing it really isn't "just me", it's actually depressing to think it may be culturally accepted. One of those, "nobody talks about it" like most cases of Domestic Violence. While western media portrays Asians as these overachieveing, hard working, humble model minorities, I see generational trauma mixed with culture shock as a recipe for disaster. Especially for 2nd Gen children. There are a handful of depictions of "tiger moms", nothing has yet to portray the true horror of what these crazed, drama queens are capable of.
