Our neighbor’s cat Larry still comes looking for our late cat, Menou 💔🐾

For over 10 years, our neighbor’s cat, Larry, came by almost every day to visit our cat, Menou. They had their own quiet routine — quiet companionship, familiar glances, and shared space. Larry would stop by, have his snack, hang around, and spend time with Menou.

Menou has since passed on… and yet Larry still comes.

Every single day, Larry shows up like clockwork. He has his snack, looks around, and lingers, as if he’s still checking to see if Menou might be there. It’s heartbreaking and beautiful all at once. Watching him keeps reminding me that grief isn’t only human, and that bonds don’t simply vanish when someone is gone.

Now we have Mystique, and Larry has accepted her in his own gentle way. They get along well — lots of sniffing, soft licks, and calm curiosity. No tension, just mutual understanding.

Sometimes I find myself wondering if Larry talks to Mystique about Menou. If he’s explaining why he still comes here, or why this place feels familiar to him. Maybe, in his own cat language, he’s sharing stories of an old friend and keeping Menou’s memory alive.

Watching Larry and Mystique together feels like a quiet kind of healing — a reminder that love doesn’t end, it simply finds a new way to exist.

Say hi to our neighbors cat Larry!
