Is it smart to trust Eagle with my editing assets?

Discussion

I have been using Eagle for a while as a way to keep my animation and design references sorted—basically a mood board on steroids.

Now, over the years I have accrued a pretty large collection of design and video editing assets like textures, backgrounds, overlays, transition packs, vector illustrations, icons, SFXs, lower thirds, mock ups... the list goes on.

I have everything lousily organized in folders and subfolders and I frequently go nuts trying to find what I am looking for, so I thought Eagle could take all of these troubles away. But seeing as I cannot link external files and folders to an Eagle DB, and I would be relying solely on the software to keep the structure of my asset library, I'm on the fence about what I should do. I feel wary about having Eagle as the single point of failure for something that is so essential to my work. What if the database gets corrupted? What if Eagle goes out of development?

Do any animators/designers/creatives here use Eagle to manage their collection of assets? Has anything gone wrong? Am I worrying too much?
