2025 Music In Review (20-11)
Here are my albums that placed between 20 to 11 for 2025.
20. SABLE fABLE; Bon Iver
Genre: Folk
Rating: 6.5/10
Best Song: From
I don’t think any Bon Iver album will ever match For Emma. This LP starts off quite strong, but does fade away slightly towards the middle, before picking up again toward the end.
19. Man’s Best Friend; Sabrina Carpenter
Genre: Pop
Rating: 7/10
Best Song: When Did You Get Hot?
This album was mostly advertised with the shock factor in mind, and it delivered to that brief well. A rather consistent, polished album, but are we really going to remember it in say 15 years time?
18. Hers; Matt Maltese
Genre: Baroque
Rating: 7/10
Best Song: Always Some MF
Another Eternal Sunshine reference? What is going on? I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would, it’s just such a chill vibe honestly.
17. Everything Must Make Sense; The Sherlocks
Genre: Indie
Rating: 7/10
Best Song: Tough Times Don’t Last
I got hooked on this band by Tough Tines Don’t Last, and I’m very much looking forward to future releases from them. There’s some absolute tunes on here, mostly on the top of the listing, including How Are You Feeling and Bones.
16. Make ‘Em Laugh, Make 'Em Cry, Make 'Em Wait; Stereophonics
Genre: Indie Pop
Rating: 7/10
Best Song: Seems Like You Don’t Know Me
This thirteenth album is fun and I really enjoyed Seems Like You Don’t Know Me, I just wished it was a bit longer and with more substance.
15. Victim of a Casual Thing; The Clause
Genre: Indie Rock
Rating: 7/10
Best Song: Element
Great catchy tunes from The Clause, (In My) Element especially. I do need to listen to it more to form a better opinion though.
14. The Human Fear; Franz Ferdinand
Genre: Indie
Rating: 7/10
Best Song: Hooked
I respect this from Franz Ferdinand, it’s not what I was expecting when I listened to this album. Hooked is definitely better than the rest of the album, but it is a decent listen overall.
13. Matter Does Not Define; The Lathums
Genre: Indie Rock
Rating: 7/10
Best Song: Long Shadows
I think I prefer their debut, but there are definitely some songs on here I particularly enjoy: the cathartic Long Shadows, as well as the usual energetic hits like Stellar Cast and Heartbreaker.
12. Songs For The Spine; The Royston Club
Genre: Indie Rock
Rating: 7/10
Best Song: Spinning
I personally think this band is a little overrated; sure, songs like Cariad and Spinning are solid and require some vocal range, but I think there are far more talented bands and better albums this year.
11. Open Wide; Inhaler
Genre: Indie Pop
Rating: 7/10
Best Song: Billy (Yeah Yeah Yeah)
I feel like this album is two-sided: I either love the songs or simply do not care about them. It is a very top-heavy album, with Billy (Yeah Yeah Yeah) and A Question of You being particular highlights.
