Japanese fan-translated rom

This is a core memory for me that im not sure if anyone else ever experienced. But I was 9 or 10 when BW first dropped in Japan and i remember watching Let's Plays of the game by people like GCPM11 and PokemonJourneyHD. And GCPM11 had a real japanese copy of the game and just threw a camera behind his DS. But PJHD was actually recording the game, probably from an emulator so it was clearer quality. And he had an English-patched ROM of the game before all the Pokemon got official English names. So it was English translated text with romanized Pokemon, town and character names. And I haven't been able to find a patched rom or even a patch file to make one myself and recreate that experience. Does anyone remember what im talking about and know where i could find something like this?
