Did paci ruin sleep training?

My 16 month old was sleep trained at 5 months with success with the Ferber method. She’s between 1-2 naps, but basically if she has one nap per day, she does 6/4.25, with a 2 hour nap. We initially sleep trained with a pacifier and she was fine. When she had an illness, she woke up and my husband started caving in and going in to pop the pacifier in for her to immediately fall back asleep. He’s kept this up now for a few months and now she wakes up once a night and he pops the pacifier back in. She used to sleep all through the night and now I’m worried that his interventions have made her dependent. I want to wean her off the pacifier, is her sleep training ruined? She’s pretty strong willed and screams at the top of her lungs and I dread doing this again
