just starting steel path help

To layout where I am at progression wise:

Main story quests are all completed

Side quests: Most completed but can finish all quickly

I just unlocked steel path and i know your damage is meant to suck when starting out so I am curious what my priorities should be to increase it? Should i focus on getting certain mods from certain factions or focus on farming for certain weapons/frames to help? For reference been loving using nekros/mesa prime and nekrahet(the bow) before unlocking steel path. All of your help is greatly appreciated and dont be afraid to tell me im just bad.
