Fics with harry characterized with subtle signs abuse

Hi! I’m hoping to find fanfics where Harry is strong and capable, but there are subtle, understated moments that suggest past abuse or neglect. I’m not really looking for heavy-handed hurt/comfort where he’s breaking down every chapter or where it all revolves around his trauma. What I prefer are quiet, believable indicators that something is off, like:

✅️ He startles or flinches at touch occasionally, particularly when it’s unexpected.

✅️ He struggles with eye contact when being confronted or even praised.

✅️ He brushes off injuries or discomfort.

✅️ He’s unusually polite, reserved, or cautious around adults.

✅️ He refuses to ask for help, even when it’s obvious he needs it.

✅️ He’s fiercely self-reliant, insisting he can handle everything alone.

✅️ He has trouble accepting care, affection, or concern.

✅️ He makes jokes about things that really aren’t funny.

✅️ He eats too quickly, hoards food, or seems tense around meals.

✅️ He’s constantly tired without an obvious reason.

Overall, I love stories where Harry is capable and powerful, yet clearly shaped by his past in realistic, nuanced ways—especially when other characters slowly begin to notice the things Harry is trying so hard to keep hidden. A fic i read with this kind of characterization that i really enjoyed was and the living will envy the dead by Severus_divides_into_H.

Plotwise im open to almost anything, and im also open to different pairings or just a gen fic. That being said, i usually read slash and i dont enjoy heavy character bashing. Thanks in advance for any recs!
