Bedding Recommendations for Sensory Issues?
Hello!
I'm on the hunt for good recommendations for bedding and how to better make my stuff last: my comforter is absolutely destroyed (10+ years) and my sheets are probably done for (holes, runs, rips, stretched out, 4 years old).
I'm very sensitive to textiles as I'm autistic; I consistently only wear cotton, wool (i love wool), linen and absolutely hate satin and sateen. I like plush blankets and knits; I'm fond of faux and real fur (rabbit for example). I don't like anything that has a "drag" to it, if that makes sense.
My current sheets are a bamboo rayon knit. My comforter is a down alternative and I'd like to switch to a duvet as I live in areas where it gets 90-100F during the summer and -13F in the winter.
Other things that tie into bedding:
- my cat sleeps in my bed and while I do trim her claws, over time she makes little holes where she walks around in trying to get to her spot. I also have rough feet from being a dancer which makes it worse. I assume that just is what is. ‐ I'm a hot and violent sleeper; I convulse, twist, kick and pull in my sleep. I sweat like a whore in church at night. I don't need cooling sheets but need something that doesnt make me feel like I'm soaked when I wake up. (I have sleep apnea and while its better, I sweat horribly during the summer with an 11lb space heater in bed with me)
- I wash everything on cold, extra rinse and low/tumble dry with wool dryer balls.
- I prefer non polyester as I burn through bedding and dislike the impact that could environmentally make; also polyester is hot and I don't need to be any hotter.
(Also minor but I'm kind of an old soul so if you have any good recommendations with old floral motifs, toiles, or dark but classy motifs, thats a plus. Solids are fine but I prefer dark tones. My bedframe is a cast iron one from the 1900s and my apartment is furnished with oddities and antiques.)
Because of the nature of my sleep habits, I'm struggling to find good recommendations that aren't extremely expensive (if I can get 2 sets and a good duvet for under 500, that's ideal). My current sheets were like 200 and barely made it 1.5 years before starting to fail; I just am cheap enough to use it till its ribbons but not cheap enough to not buy a good set to start with.
Thank y'all in advance!
